Source-code As A Service
I think the economic argument for saas will continue, but the current practices will not.
I hate auto-updates, everything apps, and other people hoarding my data. Getting a month check sounds fine.
Auto updates are a stupid to have problem now, notepad++ got allot of important people hacked a few months ago because its auto update pop-up, its a fucking text editor if you didn’t need a post-1990 feature you shouldn’t have updated. When an “ai swarm” guy is running 100 bots and shipping 100000 lines a day and maybe reads the ai reddit where its promoting nft’s and an ai religion; just no I’m not running your “important update” a 100 times a day.
etc. etc. etc.
Roblocks by being “saas” made: pedophiles a risk, gambling games, porn access; all possible. Why is this risk on the table for the task of “child playing video games”, why not just give them 1000 or 100000 historic but offline video games? “Just don’t”tm there are such things as stupid problems to have and I think allot of “saas” practices have crossed the line a long time ago.

So what if the world had a bit of sanity and we used the ai for something that actually improves the situation. While end users could never have been asked to follow 3 steps to run a compiler, Claude can.
Ai as a patching and build script is on the table.
So imagine with me, I write software as best Im able using whatever method I wish, you sign giant stack of legal documents and are given a chat box that can message me or download software. You ask for “the text editor needs to track which employee edited each line of the legal document” it asks “can I see your employee id scheme”, you give it a csv, Claude can glue that patch together and add it to my text editor hopefully compiling and wow amazing, you send me a monthly check. Wow, such service, many softwares.
Critically, I not auto updating it, it will only update if theres a problem, maybe I keep the patches to see what people keep asking for.
