Theory: Synapse's are the brains immune system not computation mechanism
Biological systems wishing to increase in complexity have to self limit to function. Multi-cellular life have to have a fairly robust cancer prevention method, an immune system that controls an bacterial ecosystem in your gut and on your skin that has self-directed evolution we still poorly understand.
There is also brute force, birds cracking open seeds and recently humans doing full body scans and cutting out cancerous growths; but this can’t be the original option building up to the more effective large mechanism requires bootstrapping. Long before modern humans entered the scene, every creature larger then a few inches needed ways to control cancer.
In the realm of electronics, it is trivial to use brute force with an emp pulse, you look at a chip made to run 5v’s and you do 5000v of electricity near it and unless specifically designed to counteract it, that chips dead; I expect that to be a law of nature, large electricity damages smaller electricity.

So, the mechanisms are more complex then originally thought, synapses are larger then more common bio-electricity and life requires immune systems. What if synapses are self-imposed emp to direct self-evolution and brain cells are a breeding ground for smaller more common bio-electric patterns rather then the mechanism of computation itself. Similar to bone marrow role in the immune system.
