Zenity is dead
Gnome has killed it so completely, nothing of value remains.
Reminder for what it once was
When I reported that they made breaking changes, making a bright white when I have dark themes and not behaving correctly on a tiling wm, they linked to the stupid blog post about their “color vision”.
I was writting some hacky scripts, the stuff that scares the safetyphiles, with zenity as my go to hello world, because why not, and trying to speed it up; hmm is it the compiler? hmmm is it the execute command? Is it the go code thats a functioning as a preprocessing?
No, a compiler, a parser, and several unnessery copys all happened in mirco seconds, the reason the code took a second to launch was:
time zenity --info --text=hello
zenity --info --text=hello 0.56s user 0.07s system 52% cpu 1.202 total
Gnome is no longer able to launch a window in under a second.
I am open to suggestions about replacements.
